How do I learn UI/UX design with no art background?

It's true — UI/UX is a thinking-and-systems skill, not a drawing skill. The people who struggle aren't the ones who can't sketch; they're the ones who can't articulate WHY a screen works. The path with no art background: 1. Learn the fundamentals that actually carry the field: hierarchy (what the eye sees first), spacing/alignment (90% of 'looks unprofessional' is inconsistent spacing), contrast, and typography basics. Refactoring UI and the Google UX course are the two highest-ROI starting points. 2. Learn one tool: Figma, free, industry standard. A weekend gets you functional. 3. Copy to learn, then create: rebuild 5 screens from apps you admire pixel-for-pixel. You'll absorb spacing, type scale and color decisions by reverse-engineering them — this is the design equivalent of practicing scales. 4. Build a portfolio of REDESIGNS with reasoning: 'here's a real app's checkout, here's the friction I found, here's my fix and why.' The reasoning is what gets you hired; pretty screens without it read as decoration. What you genuinely don't need: drawing, a degree, or 'natural taste' (taste is trained by studying many good examples deliberately).
