How can a non-programmer start building things with AI?

Marketing background, zero code. I keep reading about people building apps with AI assistance. What can someone like me realistically build, and where do I start?

Realistically buildable today with no code: internal tools, automations, simple web apps, chatbots on your own documents. The ladder I'd climb: 1. Automations first — Zapier/Make + an LLM step. 'When a form comes in, summarize it and draft a reply.' Real value, zero code, one afternoon. 2. AI app builders — tools that turn a described app into a working one. Ugly but functional CRMs, trackers, calculators. 3. AI-assisted actual code — this is the real unlock. Ask the AI to build it in plain HTML/JS, paste errors back, iterate. You'll accidentally learn to read code, which quietly makes you 5x more capable. One mindset warning: AI gets you a demo in a day. Making something OTHERS can use reliably is still real work — that's where most no-code AI projects stall. Start with tools for yourself; the bar is lower and the value is immediate.
