How do I start working out at home with no equipment?

No gym budget, no equipment, small apartment. Can I actually get meaningfully fit with just bodyweight at home, or is that a compromise that plateaus fast?

You can get genuinely fit, strong and lean with bodyweight alone — the 'you need a gym' belief is mostly gym marketing plus the plateau problem (which is solvable). Here's the real path: The foundation (covers your whole body): - Push: push-ups (and progressions — incline → standard → decline → archer → one-arm over months) - Legs: squats, lunges, split squats, then single-leg progressions - Pull: this is bodyweight's one genuine gap. A ₹300 doorway pull-up bar solves it; without it, use rows under a sturdy table or resistance bands (a ₹400 band set is the highest-ROI purchase you'll make) - Core: planks, leg raises, hollow holds How to not plateau (this is the whole secret): muscles grow from progressive overload — steadily doing MORE. With no weights, you add difficulty instead of kilos: harder variations, more reps, slower tempo (a 4-second lowering phase turns easy push-ups brutal), less rest, and pausing at the hard point. A ₹700 investment in a pull-up bar and bands removes the only real ceiling for the first year-plus. A simple week: 3–4 sessions, ~30–40 min, alternating push-focus and pull/leg-focus days, each movement 3–4 sets near (not to) failure, progressing something every week. Where bodyweight genuinely caps out: maximal strength for advanced lifters and isolated hypertrophy for specific muscles — a concern for year two, not now. For getting fit, strong and lean from where you are? Your apartment floor is enough. Consistency and progression matter a hundred times more than equipment.

The thing nobody warns beginners about: your limiting factor won't be equipment, it'll be showing up on the unmotivated days and eating enough protein to actually recover. I trained bodyweight-only for two years and got compliments-strong. The people who 'plateau on bodyweight' almost always plateaued on consistency or progression, then blamed the method.
