How long does it take to see results from working out?

Been training a month, mirror looks identical, motivation cratering. When do visible changes actually show up, and is something wrong with me if it's slow?

Nothing's wrong with you — you're just inside the invisible phase, and almost everyone quits here without knowing it's normal. The real timeline: Weeks 1–4: huge changes you can't see. Your nervous system is learning to recruit muscle (that's why strength jumps first — you lift more with the same-looking body), and habits are forming. Real, foundational, invisible in the mirror. The month you're describing is exactly on schedule. Weeks 4–8: YOU start noticing — clothes fit differently, more energy, weights climbing. Others usually don't yet. Weeks 8–12: other people start noticing. This is the payoff window most quitters never reach because they judged the project at week 4. 3–6 months: clear, undeniable transformation if training and nutrition were consistent. Two things that determine whether the timeline is 'normal slow' or 'actually stalled': 1. Nutrition is ~70% of visible change. Training hard and eating carelessly is the #1 reason mirrors don't move — you can't out-train the kitchen. Enough protein (roughly 1.6–2g per kg bodyweight) and the right calorie direction for your goal matter more than any program. 2. Progressive overload — if you're lifting the same weights/reps as week one, you've stopped giving your body a reason to change. The reframe that keeps people in the game: judge the process, not the mirror — did you train and eat as planned this week? The mirror is a lagging indicator that reports on work you did weeks ago. Trust the lag; it always pays, just later than motivation wants.
